Spotted doves look similar to common pigeons. As its name suggests, it has a unique white spotted black collar on the side of its neck. Spotted doves are omnivorous. Their favourite foods are insects, fruits and seeds on the ground.
Spotted doves are one of the most common birds in Hong Kong. They can be found in both urban and rural areas. Their soft cooing calls are commonly heard.
Fun facts about Spotted Doves
- During the breeding season, spotted doves display their passion to the opposite sex by inflating their throats and bowing.
- They usually build nests on small trees. However, their nests are usually a mess of a few twigs.
